Roger Doughty
Roger Doughty was born in Cannock Chase in 1868. Doughty had a Welsh mother and an Irish father. Along with his brother, John Doughty, he played football for Druids. In consecutive seasons, 1885 and 1886, the brothers won the Welsh Cup.
In 1886 Doughty left his work as a coalminer in Wales to join the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (LYR). He also played football for the works team, Newton Heath.
In 1888 he won his first international cap for Wales against Ireland. Roger scored two goals in the game but his brother John Doughty added four more in their 11-0 victory. Roger also played against Scotland later that year.
Doughty left Newton Heath in 1892 but returned for the 1896-97 season.
Roger Doughty died in Manchester on 19th December 1914.
