Sheffield: a light cruiser
The Sheffield, a light cruiser, was completed in 1937. On the outbreak of the Second World War she joined the Home Fleet and fought in the campaign off the coast of Norway.
In May 1941 it joined King George V, the Dorsetshire, Rodney and the Norfork in the attack on the Bismarck. Later that year she was involved in protecting Arctic convoys against the German Navy. The Sheffield also took part in the sinking of the Scharnhorst in December 1943.
In 1944 the Rodney provided bombardment of German defences during the the D-Day landings. In the later stages of the Second World War she served in the Far East.
