Spencer Bassett

Spencer Bassett was born in Blackheath in 1885. A right-half he played for Maidstone United before joining Woolwich Arsenal in May 1907.

Bassett made his league debut against Notts County on 7th October 1909. Unfortunately, he was not selected again and in 1910 he moved to Exeter City. He also played for Swansea City.

On the outbreak of the First World War he joined the Royal Garrison Artillery. He was sent to the Western Front and was killed on 11th April 1917. He is buried at the PozieresWar Cemetery.
