Antoine Robidoux

Antoine Robidoux was born in Florissant, Missouri, on 24th September, 1794. He moved to Sante Fe in 1823 and became a mountain man trapping beavers in the Rocky Mountains. Robidoux also built trading posts on the Gunnison River and in the Unita Mountains of Utah. In letters to John Bidwell he helped to publicize the merits of settling in California.

In 1844 Robidoux settled in St. Joseph, Missouri but later accompanied Stephen Kearny and was wounded at the battle of San Pasqual.

Antoine Robidoux died in St. Joseph on 29th August, 1860.
