1865 Springfield

The single-shot Springfield rifle was manufactured by the United States Armoury at Springfield, Massachusetts. It was used during the American Civil War and became the main rifle issued to the army during the Indian Wars. The 1865 version was replaced by the Model 1873. This improved rifle remained in service until 1892 when the Krag-Jorgensen magazine rifle was adopted by the army.
