Cowboy in New Mexico in 1870.

Traditional cowboy boots were first produced by H. J. Justin in Texas. Boots were so important to cowboys that they were willing to spend two months wages on having a custom pair made. The high forward-sloping heel kept the foot firmly placed in the stirrup. Although idea for riding, these boots were not easy to walk in.
