Rand University

Rand School of Social Science was established in 1906 by George D. Herron and the American Socialist Party. Named after the anti-slavery campaigner, Carrie Rand, members of the faculty included Max Eastman, Oswald Garrison Villard, Philip Randolph, Scott Nearing, Norman Thomas and Charles Beard. The Rand School suffered during the McCarthy Era and closed down in 1956.
