Scout Cruisers and the First World War

The Royal Navy built 15 scout cruisers between 1904 and 1913. Designed for speed with little or no armour protection, they were intended for scouting operations or as guards of destroyer flotillas. It was the scout cruisers that first engaged the enemy at the Battle of Jutland.
