University of Glasgow

Glasgow University was founded in 1451, making it the fourth oldest in the United Kingdom and the second oldest in Scotland (St. Andrews was founded in 1411). Industrial development in the 19th century forced the university authorities to move to West End, a site three miles away. Amongst Scottish universities, Glasgow is second only to Edinburgh, in the size of its student population (13,000 undergraduates). However, its medical school is the largest in Britain.
